The 2 must have the aimer on in conjuction with the illuminator but the aimer can be used alone on either model. the 15 has a crappy red laser aimer and a nice IR aimer and IR illuminator. The 2 has only a nice IR aimer and IR illuminator the 15 uses a single 123 battery. the 2 uses two AA bateries
